  • Systems developer - PHP

Join our development team and get the chance to work on a varied range of great projects that you can really get your teeth in to. The role will entail working with a team of development specialists, working on PHP/MySQL programming behind the scenes of web sites and heavy database lead web applications.

The systems you will be working on will be a mix of booking systems that turnover £100m+, training course management systems and eCommerce sites. They all provide an interesting challenge in different ways. Whilst you may end up working on one system more than another and become more of a specialist on that system, you will still be working on a range of systems, so that you can collaborate and share best practice with others.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Carrying out development work on a range of systems. A mix of Laravel and other PHP based systems
    • The majority of the development work is likely to be around introducing new or improved functions or refactoring old code in to a Laravel codebase. There will be a mix of front end and back end work, with a heavier weighting towards backend work.
    • Deploying code through git
    • Thinking analytically about the work being done and making suggestions for improvements
    • Attending regular developer meetings to discuss working practices and improvements that can be made.

    Essential Skills:

    • PHP
    • MySQL
    • Laravel experience
    • Critical thinking
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Enjoy collaboration with others - we have monthly developer meetings to share ideas and best practice

    Bonus point available for:

    • Javascript
    • git
    • HTML
    • CSS
    • Linux Server administration (SSH/bash)
    • Working with 3rd party APIs and SDKs
    • Sass
    • Node

  • Bespoke website developer

Due to company growth we have an opening within our bespoke web site team. Below are details of the job role. You’ll be joining a great team, where you can expect to work together with others to overcome challenges and learn new techniques. You are however, expected to be able to hit the ground running to a certain degree and will be responsible for your own output and code quality of the sites you build.

    Build websites from scratch

    • You will be building lightweight, responsive websites, on a range of CMSs such as Wordpress and ProcessWire
    • We require someone who can receive files from a designer and reproduce them to the pixel, in clean and logical HTML, CSS and Javascript

Perform maintenance and debugging on existing sites

You will be able to understand tasks based on a written brief, and to look at a site built by another developer and figure out why an error is occurring, how to correct it, and how to make desired design or functional changes. Experience with a particular CMS or system is less important than someone with a general ability to investigate and problem-solve across a variety of systems

    Teamwork

    • Ability to work in a team of developers and perform development tasks in accordance with team practices.
    • Able to work in teams, including project managers and designers, communicate technical challenges to non-developers.
    • Ability to work to deadlines.

Bonus points for experience with any of the following:

    • Laravel
    • Magento
    • Version control with git
    • Sass or another CSS preprocessor
    • Working with RESTful APIs
    • Use of package managers and workflow tools like NPM, Composer, Gulp
